Being diagnosed with a new condition, or experiencing changes to your health can be scary. Patients need accessible, reassuring information which empowers them to understand and manage their health.

Using simple, friendly illustrations, positive colours and practical layout I produced a new style of ‘Your guide to’ booklets for patient communications at
St John & St Elizabeth Hospital.

I carefully chose illustrations which represented the conditions’ symptoms or management tips without being off-putting. I used a simple vector illustration style to suit the adult audience, adding subtle textured gradients to soften.

I created boxed text layouts in ‘sticky note’ or check-list styles to create digestible sections of text which are easy for
patients to follow.

Two booklets. One titled 'Falls and moving safely' and one titled 'Living with lymphoedema'. The Falls booklet has an illustration of a pairs of trainers on the front. The Lymphoedema booklet has an illustration of a leg wearing a compression sock. The falls booklet is open. The pages show information which is split into blue and yellow boxes. There are illustrations of slippers and trainers. The lymphoedema booklet is open, the text is split into blue and yellow boxes. Their is an illustration of a leg wearing a compression sock. The lymphoedema booklet is open on a different page, there are illustrations of an arm and two people doing seated exercises.
